When trying to shed some of those post Christmas pounds Grapefruit essential oil can be a good friend. Diffusing it into the room or sniffing it during the day can help suppress the appetite and balance the body which increases the metabolism. Using Grapefruit essential oil in massage can promote the appearance of smooth undimpled skin in those cellulite prone areas  by stimulating the lymph glands and encouraging the removal of toxins from the body.

When choosing a scent for your soap, you have the option of either fragrance oils which are man made and can contain alcohol, and pure essential oils which are natural and extracted from plants. Our fragrance oils come in a wide range of popular scents, however, if you are just learning the art of soap making, we recommend that you stick to using essential oils as they can be added either with the oils you are using or at the trace stage successfully. Fragrance oils can be a little trickier to use as they can only be added at the trace stage and sometimes can cause problems with seizing.

Sandalwood powder is an excellent addition to any soap, lotion, exfoliator or face mask recipe. It has the same antimicrobial and antiseptic properties as Sandalwood essential oil but also has additional balancing and astringent properties. It can also help to hold the other fragrances or essential oils you may wish to add.

Our Organic Castille Liquid Soap is a natural product which is gentle on the skin and will not take away its natural oils. My mixing in a small amount of Sweet almond oil to create a smooth, creamy lather and a couple of drops of Rose Geranium essential oil, you will have yourself a beautifully fragranced, soothing cleanser.

Sesame seed oil is a good natural sun filter and Shea nut butter fends off UV rays but should you find you have over done it and are suffering from a touch of sunburn, the best treatment, like any other burn is Lavender essential oil. As soon as possible immerse yourself in cold water for at least 10 minutes, then gently rub pure lavender essential oil all over the affected area. With a bit of luck by morning you should be pain free and much less red.

It is generally believed that in order to create a well-balanced perfume using essential oils, it should contain 3 notes:

A TOP NOTE:  Such as lemon or basil essential oil to give it a fresh, light quality that is instantly noticeable due to their fast evaporation rate.

A MIDDLE NOTE:  Like Geranium or lavender essential oil usually makes up the most of the blend and is the scent which is noticed a while after first impression.

A BASE NOTE:  Such as Jasmine or Patchouli essential oil is the rich, heavy note which emerges slowly and lingers. It also acts as a fixative to prevent the lighter notes evaporating too quickly.

Happy blending!
