How Much Essential Oil Should I Use??

This is a very important question, as Essential Oils are very potent and what may seem a small amount will actually be all you need. There are certainly instances when less will certainly be better, including in pregnancy or people on medication for example, it is best to get the advice of your doctor before using essential oils if you have any medical issues. All of these examples below are maximums. In some instances the dosage may not seem much, as we adjust our tolerance to smell quite quickly, be assured if you put the essential oils in a bath, walk out and close all the doors, when you re-enter the room you will get a much clearer view of the intensity of the aroma.

  • Bath – 8 Drops
  • Shower – 2 Drops
  • Jacuzzi – 3 Drops per person
  • Sauna – 2 Drops per 600ml of water
  • Massage Oil – 1 Drop to each ml of Base Oil
  • Tissue or Handkerchief – 1 Drop
  • Inhaled as a Vapour – 2-3 Drops
  • Water Bowl – 1-9 Drops
  • Diffusers – 1-6 Drops
  • Radiators – 1-9 Drops
  • Humidifers – 1-9 Drops
  • Room Sprays – 4 or more Drops per 250ml Water
  • Light Bulb Rings – 4-6 Drops
  • Log Fires – 1 Drop per Log
  • Silk and Paper Flowers – 1 Drop per flower
  • Pillows – 1-3 Drops per pillow
  • Clothing – 1-2 Drops
  • Lotions and Creams – 10-15 Drops per 50mls of Cream

Below is an approximate guide, as all droppers vary slightly, to how many drops are in 1 ml of Essential Oil.

1ml Essential Oil = 20 Drops

2ml Essential Oil = 40 Drops

5ml Essential Oil = 100 Drops

10ml Essential Oil = 200 Drops
