WA Sandalwood v East Indian Sandalwood

Both Western Australian Sandalwood essential oil and East Indian Sandalwood essential oils are extracted from the same parts of the tree and both contain similar quantities of alpha and beta santalol which give sandalwood oil its distinctive aroma. However WA Sandalwood has been shown to contain higher amounts of farnesol and alpha-bisabolol . These are the compounds which have demonstrated antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. This suggests Wa Sandalwood essential oil is better for theraputic use while East Indian Sandalwood essential oil is coveted in the perfume industry.
