A blend for August:
When it comes to little ones with bunged up noses, a good night’s sleep can be hard to come by. So here is a blend to put in the diffuser to help the night go a little easier…

3 Drops Eucalyptus Peppermint (Eucalyptus Dives)

3 Drops Lavender

2 Drops Frankincense

The clearing, decongestant properties of Eucalyptus Peppermint teamed up with the calming, soothing properties of Lavender and Frankincense’s mucus reducing ability make them a wonderful trio.

Eucalyptus Peppermint is preferable to regular Eucalyptus (globulus) for a children’s blend because it is more gentle and has no known contraindications. Eucalyptus not only can be stimulating and therefore not sleep inducing, but it is also rich in cineole which, according to Tisserand’s Essential Oil Safety, can cause central nervous system and breathing problems in young children. So this our little people friendly, gentle bedtime blend to sooth away those sniffles.

Varicose veins are caused by faulty valves, or structural abnormalities of the blood vessels failing to effectively circulate blood from the legs to the heart. According to the Australian Vein Institute, there are various essentials oils that can be useful in helping to reduce swelling and ease pain. Here are some of the top ones. Rosemary and Cypress oils can stimulate blood circulation and encourage blood flow, helping to reduce swelling and heaviness. Geranium oil is also an oil known for its use with circulation and skin conditions. Lavender and Frankincense oils can be of benefit with their anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties, and there are a number of other Phlebotonic essential oils which could also be included, such as Neroli, Lemon, Grapefruit, Tea Tree, Niaouli, Spikenard and Patchouli. Add your oils to carrier oil and apply gently to the leg just above the affected vein. Avoid massaging or applying to the vein directly as it could cause further vein damage or possible blood clot release, risking pulmonary embolism.

Linoleic acid is essential for healthy skin. It plays an extremely important role in building the protective layer that locks in and maintains moisture, while strengthening the barrier that keeps out irritants. Helping to protect the skin against chaps and cracks and dryness. It is therefore a must in any hand treatment, especially in Winter or when protecting hands from regular washing and hand sanitiser use. Many carrier oils contain Linoleic acid, but among those with the highest content are Evening Primrose oil, Sunflower oil, Grapeseed oil and Safflower oil. So whether you are making a scrub, serum or moisturiser, any of these oils would be a brilliant addition for nourishing your skin this season.
