Often soap makers will add additives such as spices or milk powder to the recipe to enhance the fragrance of the essential oils used, add additional qualities or just to make it attractive. A trick to help stop the powder forming clumps is to first mix it with a little liquid vegetable glycerine to help it spread more evenly through the mixture.

To lessen the effect of jet-lag mix together: 60 drops Lavender essential Oil, 60 drops Grapefruit essential oil and 40 drops Rosemary essential oil. Pour into a small amber bottle and leave for 4 days to blend.

Add 10 drops to a  bath or add 1-2 drops onto a hot moist flannel wrung out. Rub briskly over the body in the shower when you have reached your destination and wait until evening before you head to bed.

Whether it is celebrating Australia Day or enjoying a birthday a little too much, every now and again we wake up feeling a little worse for ware. For every glass of water you drink (and you should be drinking plenty of it) add a drop of peppermint essential oil and a teaspoon of honey. This should help the nausea. A cold compress with a couple of drops of Geranium essential oil should help the thumping headache.

Another occasional problem some pets can have is Ticks. A couple of drops of pure Eucalyptus essential oil on the body of the Tick and this should cause it to drop off.

If you are finding your pet is having problems with fleas it is useful to know that fleas HATE essential or aromatic oils. A few drops of essential oils such as Rosemary, Lavender or Sage in their bedding can help repel them. Alternatively you could try the natural repellent recipe below.

Blend together 10ml Sweet Almond Oil, 10 drops Lavender essential oil and 5 drops of Cedar wood or Geranium essential oil. Sparingly massage a couple of drops over the coat and onto the skin about twice a week, especially around the neck area.

Place approx 230g Sodium Bicarbonate into a plastic bag and add 10 drops Clove essential oil, 15 drops Sweet Orange essential oil and 15 drops of Lavender essential oil., Seal the bag and shake well to mix. Leave for at least 24 hours to allow the essential oils to permeate the bicarb. Sprinkle over the carpet at least half an hour before vacuuming for a fresh, deodorised carpet.
